What is LCF in ship?

By Daniel Johnston

What is LCF in ship?

Symbol. Longitudinal Center of Flotation (LCF): Geometric center of the ship’s waterline plane. The ship trims about this point. May be forward or aft of the MP depending on the ship’s hull shape at the waterline.

How do you refer initial stability?

The metacentric height GM0 is also referred to as “initial stability”, see Chapter 3. The linear range depends on the hull flare at the waterline (generally about 5 degrees). As discussed in Section 7.2.

What is the range of stability?

The distance between the origin and point of vanishing stability is called the range of stability of a ship. In the above case, the range of stability is from 0 degrees to some angle above 90 degrees.

How do you calculate GZ?

GZ=GM sin φ and is called the righting lever. GM is known as the metacentric height. For a given position of G, as M can be taken as fixed for small inclinations, GM will be constant for any particular waterline.

What is GZ in ship stability?

The vessel’s centre of gravity (G) has a distinct effect on the righting lever (GZ) and consequently the ability of a vessel to return to the upright position. The lower the centre of gravity (G), the bigger is the righting lever (GZ).

What is VCG in ship stability?

Location from the Bottom (Keel) of the ship This is known as the Vertical center of gravity (VCG) or simply KG. If the heavier weights are loaded on the top part of the ship, then COG of the ship will be towards the top of the vessel. In this case, KG of the ship will be a larger value.

What is km stability?

KM is the distance from the keel to the metacentre. Stable floating objects have a natural rolling frequency, just like a weight on a spring, where the frequency is increased as the spring gets stiffer.

What is angle of flooding?

2.5 The term angle of flooding ( 1) means the angle of heel at which openings in the hull, superstructures or deckhouses, which cannot be closed weathertight, immerse. In applying this definition, small openings through which progressive flooding cannot take place need not be considered as open.

What is kg in ship stability?

KG – Height of the ship’s Center of Gravity the above Keel: This measurement is found in section II(a) of the DC Book for several conditions of loading.

What is KN stability?

Cross curves of stability is a set of curves from which the KN values for a set of constant heel-angle values at any particular displacement may be read. Thus, we have a curve for heel angle of 10°, next for 20° and so on.

Is VCG and KG same?

What should be included in a stablestability report?

stability report must be established for internal use, registration purposes, etc., giving details of the design of the study, as well as the results and conclusions.

What is a stability-indicating assay?

A stability-indicating assay, properly performed, will separate the degradation products/peaks and show the intact drug peak as it decreases in area or height, reflecting a change in the concentration of the intact drug.

What is accelerated stability testing?

Accelerated stability tests provide a means of comparing alternative formulations, packaging materials, and/or manufacturing processes in short-term experiments.

What is the strength of an API?

The purpose of strength, or potency, testing is to establish or verify the concentration (strength, potency) of the API in the compounded preparation. USP has established that the acceptable range of most compounded preparations is typically ±10%, or within the range of 90.0%– 110.0%.
