What is ZAM for polishing?

Zam is a proprietary mixture of aluminum oxide and chromium oxide held with a binder. It produces a high luster without residue, and is your final finishing step when you polish. It is a very versatile polishing compound as it can be used on metals, many stones, and plastics.

How do you polish turquoise?

Cleaning Turquoise:

  1. Dampen a clean, soft-bristled toothbrush in clean water.
  2. Gently scrub the surface of the stone with the brush.
  3. Dry the whole piece well with a soft towel.
  4. Polish the jewelry, especially metal parts, with a jewelry polishing cloth.

Is Zam supposed to be hard?

Zam is indeed rock hard, and I’ve been able to use it to polish turquoise by scratching a bit off with my finger nail and apply with a polishing cloth for a not very aggressive polishing method. Depends on what surface you are polishing.

How do you restore dull Turquoise?

Turquoise doesn’t require any cleaning products to restore its shine and color. Turquoise has been mined for jewelry and decoration for thousands of years. Apply a small dab of white toothpaste or baking soda to a damp toothbrush. Brush the silver with the toothbrush to remove any residue or tarnish.

How can you tell real Turquoise?

Turquoise is naturally a soft stone, but howlite (the turquoise imitation), is even softer. This means that if you scratch your stone and it scratches easily, you most likely have a piece of howlite. But if it’s very difficult to scratch your stone, you’ve got genuine turquoise!
