How aggressive is the muhle R41?

After a few months of shaving with the R41, I can tell you that it is a fairly aggressive safety razor even after the revamped addition. I give it a 8/10 on my aggressiveness scale. The open comb on this safety razor really exposes a lot of the blade ( open comb vs closed comb razor).

Is a straight blade better than a razor?

Safety razors and straight razors are considered the better options. Both safety and straight razors will give you a close, smooth shave which is often far superior to what you’d get from an electric or cartridge razor. At the same time, safety and straight razors do require a bit more maintenance.

Are Muhle razors good?

The MÜHLE R89 closed comb is widely considered one of the gentlest DE razors on the market making it an excellent choice for both novices and pros alike. Great for sensitive skin, the single blade generally causes less irritation through demanding fewer passes.

Is a straight razor sharper than a Shavette?

The double blades of the Shavette razor and those of most safety shavers are sturdier than the edge of traditional straight razors. Therefore, no matter how hard you sharpen a razor, its sharpness can rarely match that of a double blade. Moreover, the price of the Shavette is a fraction of the traditional razor.

Does a straight razor give the closest shave?

The result is the closest shave known to man: “Due to the angle and pressure applied, the straight razor reached deeper and closer to the follicle with each pass,” says John Rivera, Master Barber at The Art of Shaving’s Barber Spa in NYC.

How aggressive is Muhle R89?

The Muhle R89 is just too aggressive for me. It’s a beautiful razor that’s clearly well made, but I have fair, sensitive skin and it didn’t give me a very comfortable shave. Don’t get me wrong. It will give you a supremely close shave, but my skin just can’t take it.

Why is shaving with a straight razor better?

Straight shaving is cleaner than shaving with cartridge or electric razors, reducing the risk of common skin infections like ingrown hairs, razor burn and razor bumps. Safety bars, lubricating strips, multiple blades and motors are difficult to clean and can clog with hair, skin, soap, and dirt.

When did straight razors go out of style?

After their introduction in 1680, straight razors became the principal method of manual shaving for more than two hundred years, and remained in common use until the mid-20th century.
