Can you swim in La Perouse?
La Perouse is a very popular summer destination. There are a range of stunning bay beaches to choose from including Congwong Beach, Little Congwong Beach and Frenchmans Bay. The beaches are generally calm and good swimming beaches.
Is Congwong beach clean?
Congwong is an idyllic stretch of clean, golden sand located at La Perouse towards the mouth of Botany Bay. The water is beautifully clear and clean and because of the beach’s south-facing aspect, large waves are a rarity.
Is La Perouse safe?

Why is it called Perouse?
La Perouse was named after the French navigator Jean-François de Galaup, comte de Lapérouse (1741–88), who landed on the northern shore of Botany Bay west of Bare Island on 26 January 1788. Louis XVI of France had commissioned Lapérouse to explore the Pacific.

Are dogs allowed at Congwong Beach?
Features. Congwong Beach is located within the Botany Bay National Park and is in the care and control of the National Parks and Wildlife Service. Dogs, alcohol and glass bottles are not permitted on the beach area. The beach is not patrolled by Lifeguards or lifesavers.

Is La Perouse Bay open?
La Perouse Bay (see more photos), located on Maui’s south shore in the Ahihi Kinau Natural Area Reserve, has a rocky shoreline. However, the majority of the Ahihi Kinau Natural Area Reserve is currently closed to the public until July 31, 2018 (see map of closed area).

Bare Island is a small island, which you can walk to across a large timber bridge. There is also a set of steps at the end of the bridge to get access to the rock platform of the island. Make a day of it by enjoying the local cafe, beaches and other museums in the area.
Is La Perouse rich?
Being such a historically rich suburb, it’s no surprise Le Perouse is home to its very own museum, the La Perouse Museum, which contains maps, scientific instruments and relics recovered from French explorers. Located close to the museum is the large La Perouse Monument, an obelisk erected back in 1825 by the French.
