Can strep B cause a rash?
Scarlet fever (also known as scarlatina) is an illness that can happen in kids who also have strep throat or strep skin infections. The strep bacteria make a toxin (poison) that causes a bright red, bumpy rash. The rash spreads over most of the body and is what gives scarlet fever its name.
What does strep B rash look like?
The rash starts as flat red blotches and later turns into tiny bumps that have a rough, sandpapery feel. While the rash may show up first on the neck, underarm, or groin area, it can spread to the rest of the body. It can also appear brighter red in areas such as the elbows and underarms.
Can Group B strep cause itching?
The US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) notes that GBS is the leading cause of sepsis and meningitis in newborns in this country. Most women don’t have any symptoms of GBS. It can, however, cause vaginal burning, itching or discharge that may be mistaken for a yeast infection (and incorrectly treated).
How long does a strep rash last?
The rash from scarlet fever fades in about 7 days. As the rash fades, the skin may peel around the fingertips, toes, and groin area. This peeling can last up to several weeks.
What does GBS discharge look like?
Even though health care providers do not widely recognize GBS vaginitis, GBS can cause yellow or green discharge as well as vaginal burning and/or irritation. These symptoms may be mistaken for a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis.
How did I get strep B in pregnancy?
What causes group B strep? The group B strep bacteria come and go naturally in people’s bodies. If a pregnant woman has the bacteria in her body, she can pass it to her baby during labor and delivery. A group B strep infection happens when a baby is exposed to the bacteria while it’s being born.
What are the causes of hives?

How long can hives last?
Hives can last a variable amount of time. Usually, eruptions may last for a few minutes, sometimes several hours, and even several weeks to months. Most individual hives last no more than 24 hours.
Can you take Benadryl for strep rash?
Antibiotics are used to kill the bacteria that cause the throat infection. For sore throat pain, you may use a combination of equal parts of over the counter medications (Benadryl Allergy 12.5mg/5ml and cherry Maalox.)
Will I have GBS forever?
People who carry GBS often have no symptoms. GBS can come and go. Testing positive for GBS does not mean you will have it forever. But you will still be considered a carrier for the rest of your life.
